Broader Perspective Difficult

Updated: Sep 9, 2022

With a growth selloff starting in 2021 and world events driving prices in 2022, it has been difficult for investors to maintain a broader perspective amidst the volatility, says Matt Peden, lead portfolio manager of Invesco Global Select Equity Strategies. With these types of rotations, he says the market ultimately refocuses on fundamentals. The focus on near-term multiples has increased and for anything that had been trading at a high near-term multiple, investors have been selling down. Valuations and the expected returns from these price levels are much more attractive than they were a year ago. There is also an opportunity to shift into companies that were previously expensive. Companies that trade and have traded at high near-term multiples, but are growing at very rapid rates, are especially interesting investment opportunities. The forward multiples of these businesses three to five years from now are quite modest and presently below historic levels.
